Eugene Laverty started racing at an early age, but his tarmac racing career began in earnest in 2001. The Irishman spent a few seasons working his way through the ranks of domestic championships, finishing runner-up in the 2004 British 125cc championship.
Eugene broke onto the world scene in 2007, racing for the LCR Honda team in the 250cc Grand Prix world championship.
In 2009 Eugene moved to World Supersport, riding for the Parkalgar Honda team. He won his first race at Losail, the first for the team and took three more wins and four second-place finishes to end the season as runner-up in the series behind Cal Crutchlow. He took another eight wins and two podiums the following year as he once again finished the season in second position in the rider standings.
Eugene made the move to WSBK in 2011, racing for the factory Yamaha team. He took two wins and six podiums in his maiden campaign before switching to the Aprilia Racing team to ride an RSV4. He took another win and six podiums in his first year riding for the Noale factory and nine wins and 19 podiums in his second year as he finished runner-up in the standings.
Eugene switched to the Voltcom Crescent Suzuki team for the 2014 season, taking a win and two podiums before making the jump up to MotoGP with the Aspar Racing team, riding a Honda RC213-RS open specification bike in 2015 and a Ducati Desmosedici GP14.2 in 2016.
He returned to the WSBK paddock in 2017 on board an Aprilia before switching to the GoEleven team and Ducati machinery in 2019. He moved to BMW in 2020, racing for the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team.
